Guitar Lessons in Tulsa | Having a Growth Mindset

This content created for Curtis Music Academy

In this edition of the Curtis Music Academy podcast, we are going to be talking about how important it is to have a growth mindset for your guitar lessons in Tulsa. The points we’re gonna be going over is what is a mindset in general point to do I have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset? And what is the difference? Three, how to choose to grow instead of have the fixed mindset or die. If you’re not growing, you’re not growing, you’re dying I guess. Right. Awesome. So without further ado, my name is Steven. I’ve been teaching music for about five years now. I am 23 years old and it has been a great joy to be able to have students ask me to teach them, to take them from where they are to where they really want to be when it comes to learning guitar. As an instructor at Curtis Music Academy, I teach guitar.

I teach beginner piano and I teach vocals. I’m not only an instructor at Curtis Music Academy, but also an administrator, the administrator where I help kind of bring organization and administration to any of the things that need to be done. Around the academy, that all things above are my job. So I kinda helped bring an element of organization and assistance to the big man. Curtis, Ron Curtis himself, which I love helping him. He’s like not only a boss but he’s a friend. And the way this actually works, our music school works is I’m a contractor so I kind of worked my, for myself, but I work at Curtis Music Academy teaching guitar lessons in Tulsa, if that makes sense. So I love it. I love every part of it. One of my favorite things about the academy is the academy itself and that is the way the, what, how the academy looks and feels.

We are actually in a home, so something that looks like your house. We actually have a living room, which is our lobby area with a couch and a coffee table and a rug. We have a kitchen, we have an office, we have, uh, a beverage area where we ha we offer water or hospitality area, if you’d like to call it that, where we offer tea, water or coffee. And it just really makes the parents, the students, young or old feel at home while taking guitar lessons in Tulsa. And then we know you will as well. My second favorite is the instructing rooms. They’re actually what would be a bedroom, but instead of a bed we have a gigantic piano in both of them with benches. And then we have two guitars, monsters on the walls in each room. In one of the rooms. We actually have a whiteboard where we as instructors can draw concepts, help bring understanding to any topic that we are teaching, at the, at the time.

And so this really helps the student and equips them, equips us as well to teach at our best. I love being here. I could sleep here, I could eat here, I could do guitar lessons in Tulsa here, I could not do lessons here. I can plan lessons here. I love it. I love everything about Curtis Academy. And so, our topic is a growth mindset and how we can have a growth mindset. My first point is what is a mindset? And I wanted to actually look up the definition and the definition that is of a mindset. And so here we go. We’re looking up the definition of mindset. And a mindset by definition is an attitude, disposition or mood. That’s the first definition. The second definition is an intention or inclination. I what really resonates with me is an attitude or disposition in the first example or the first definition. So what is your mindset when you’re taking guitar lessons in Tulsa?

And so it’s the attitude by which you have when it comes to any given feedback or topic, a disposition as well. I like the word attitude. I like how a mindset is really your attitude or worldview on just on life. And so, a mindset is your approach is the way in which the attitude in which you approach the subject. So when we say growth mindset, we’re saying an attitude or disposition that allows us to grow and makes us better and helps us to, you know, just be a better person, a better instructor, whatever the topic is. In our case, it would be guitar lessons in Tulsa. My second point is, do I have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset? And what is the difference? So in this example, there’s two kinds of mindsets that I like to kind of talk about and that’s a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

A fixed mindset is saying, this is what I do and I’m never going to change it. A groan, growth mindset says I realize I need to change and I’m willing to make the changes necessary. And so most people I think want a growth mindset, but it’s hard to get out of that fixed mindset. And so, and it’s just because we need someone to help kind of grab us by the hand and walk through it. It’s important to get out of guitar lessons in Tulsa with a fixed mindset and go into the growth mindset. You have to first be honest with yourself and that is the first step of growth anyway, is to assess where you’re at and be honest with where you’re at. We want to be honest and to be honest, I believe I have a growth mindset. Now. I do, you know, if I, if I was teaching you, I would hope that I would have a growth mindset and not be a, have a fixed mindset or this would really be of no benefit to you directly.

So I like to, I am constantly growing learning. So I would say I have a growth mindset. Fixed mindset says that is saying that this is what I do and I’m really not willing to change. And the, the, the negative side, the benefits of having a fixed mindset during guitar lessons in Tulsa is that, there are no benefits other than that you stay the same and that it makes you feel good because you don’t have to change anything. But the payoff is not very good. If you have a fixed mindset, you don’t grow, you don’t change, you don’t get better. You stay the same. I guess that could be a rhyme or a song if you’d like. But this as a fixed mindset does not enable you to change because your attitude or your PR, your approach is that you won’t change anything. Because if you won’t, if you’re not willing to change anything, you’re going to become stagnant.

The same now as you will five, 10, 15, 20 years from now. And really as I talked about in a previous podcast that has no benefit to yourself or others, it actually makes you a less valuable person because you’re no longer growing or learning or getting better. You’re actually staying the same. This is why taking guitar lessons in Tulsa is so important. And if you stay the same, you’re not growing. If you’re not growing, then you’re no longer useful. So I think growth is definitely a not only desirable trait, but a needed trait as a human being. Guitar lessons in Tulsa are important as well, and that’s helpful as a fixed mindset. The growth mindset says, I understand I’m not perfect. That changes need to be made and I’m willing to make those changes to become better or to grow. And so this mindset is healthy mindset. It, it understands and is humble enough to acknowledge that we’re not perfect, that we don’t have it all together and that we need help.

And so we want to ask questions, go to someone to receive feedback. And this is really what I really wanted to talk about, which is the approach and the growth mindset, the approach we need to have with a growth mindset. So, or our mindset in general, we want to have the attitude, uh, they say your attitude determines your altitude. Your attitude determines how high or low you will go in life. If you have a great attitude, if you have a growth attitude or a growth mindset, you can go very far in life. You can make more money. You can make more friends, you can have more.

When you take guitar lessons in Tulsa, are you having a good attitude about where you’re at in your progress? Most likely, you can be happier. You can make others happy. You can have a more enjoyable life. And that’s what we all want, right? I don’t know anyone that wants to, you know, stay the same. Never wants to change who never wants to make their life better or others’ lives better or the world’s better and wants to be unhappy.

I don’t know anyone like that. And so, but what, how does that come to fruition? Well, you keep a fixed mindset. That’s how you can not grow and be staggered and unhappy. Choose to grow. This is the last point we want to choose to grow. Choosing to grow means we have to adopt the attitude, the disposition, the intention of humility and being hungry. I’m going to leave you with this point. Be humble and hungry, hungry and humble. If you stay humble, you’ll always be able to learn and grow during your guitar lessons in Tulsa. If you stay hungry, you’ll always grow for sure. No one can stop. You remember, be humble and hungry because this is the key to a growth mindset and a better life and a better you and you deserve to be better and make others’ lives better.
